YOU NEVER KNOW WHO'S WATCHING

A few months ago I went with one of our ministry team members to eat lunch. This was at a hamburger restaurant near our office in Colleyville, TX. We and other members of our team eat there often. This was an unusual day. While we don’t know any of the workers there personally we always greet each other with a smile. While we were eating, one of the workers, a young girl, walked over to our table. She paused and then said to me, "Do you pray for people?"

I’m sure she had noticed that our group always bowed to give thanks before we ate. What a testimony this is, I assure you people are watching and they can’t help but think about what you are doing. Maybe there was another reason that she came to me, I’m not sure, maybe God was answering the deeper cries of her heart. Maybe an angel directed her to me, surely the Holy Spirit was involved.

I remember being with a friend in Las Vegas once. He is a Christian business man and invited me to go on a trip with him. He promised to play golf while we were there if I would go. Neither of us really wanted to be in Las Vegas. I recall being in a restaurant with him and after we had given thanks, we both sort of looked at each other with grin. "They probably think we are smelling of our food," he said. We still laugh about that.

This young girl in Colleyville, I will call Laura, certainly surprised me with the question she asked me, "Do your pray for people?" "Yes, I do," I said, "do you have a special prayer need?" "I’m going to interview for a job tomorrow," she said, " and I really need the job because I don’t have hardly any money." I assured her I would pray for her, "What kind of job is it, what will you be doing?" She said, without a blink or a blush, "It’s nude modeling." "Nude modeling!" I said, "Does your mom know about this?"

She told me she had spoken with her mom who lived on the west coast and she had no problem with it. (I later found out that her mom was a lesbian and had raised her with another lesbian in the home.) "She doesn’t really care", she said. "But you care don’t you? I said, "that’s not what you really want to do is it?" She replied with, "They said they would pay me $100.00 if I would do it." I said, "I’ll give you a hundred dollars not to do it." She hesitated, thought a minute and said, "No you wouldn’t?" The worked seated with me who had been silent the whole time spoke up, "Yes, he will." I happened to have a one hundred dollar bill with me and took it from my billfold to give it to her.

Because it was busy I could not really witness to her at that time. She did take the money and I told her we would come back the next day, The next morning in our office I mentioned this and asked our team members to pray for her. I said, "we are going back there today and I’ll take a few gospel tracts." One of the ladies in our office was training for deliverance ministry spoke up, "I’m all over this! I’m all over this, I’m going with you. (She had been saved and rescued from the adult entertainment industry). She knew how it all worked.

Betty, (not real name), was excited at the opportunity to witness to this girl. She talked withher privately for a few minutes and told her, "I’ll pick you up at 5:00." She had invited her to a Bible study that evening. She gave her a Bible and witnessed to her about the love and saving power of Jesus Christ. Laura was saved that night!

The next time I went to that restaurant, Laura saw me coming and greeted me at the door with a big hug, "Thank you for praying for me, thank you," she said. She seemed not only happy but relieved. Not long after she transferred to a location that was closer to her home. I haven’t seen her since. You know, I don’t think she even knows my name.

The book of Mark mentions that one day Jesus sat by the treasury and watched as the people gave (Mark 12:41). I guess He still does.

In fact, this phrase, "the eyes of the LORD" occurs no less than 21 times in the Bible. While this is hard to understand in one way, it is wonderfully clear when we remember that God is omnipotent and omniscient, as well as omnipresent. "He that formed the eye, shall he not see?" Psalm 94:9). Look at Proverbs 15:3 "the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good"

Angels look, demons look. God looks.

People look.

While we can know with greater certainty that God looks. Angels are looking for ways to minister for us, sometimes this comes simply by speaking words of faith. They are watching over. Demons are watching for opportunities of evil ... Sometimes this comes from simply speaking words of hatred, anger and bitterness. They lurk in shadows and darkness, but they are looking.

Lot’s of eyes watching. You can be sure that people are looking. Little children are looking. People in the car behind you are looking. People in the restaurant are looking.

Jesus was likely watched more than any other man. They watched in order to find fault, they couldn’t. They watched to trick Him and trap Him, they couldn’t. They watched His miracles and wanted to be touched by Him, they could!

I think it is a fair statement that most people are looking for love and genuineness. Even though people are often looking in the wrong places. I’m not sure why people might be watching me and you … but you can be sure they are.

I’m sure that those of you who know me, know that I am not good at asking for money, I don’t like to, I really do wish money was not an issue in ministry. But it is. Please pray about being a regular supporter of this work. I know God will bless you!

Just for Jesus,

Don
